When it comes to sandbox games, the term usually means that you have creative freedom over an area. I like sandbox games, but there is one game out there that doesn’t quite fit the official definition while still managing to be a sandbox game in the most literal sense: Cozy Holes

I’ve written about Cozy Holes before, and it should be obvious by this point that I genuinely enjoy spending time in the game just digging in the sand, and that was just within the demo. Now the countdown is on to August 6, when Cozy Holes will enter early access.

Early access features

While the biggest benefit of joining Cozy Holes on this early access adventure is the ability to play past the 3-day cutoff point of the demo, there are some other features coming to early access that are very exciting.

Included in this is the addition of a hose attachment for Digby. In the demo, any lava you encounter (or decide to jump into…) would immediately send you back to the starting hut, forcing you to trudge back to where you were previously digging. With the addition of the hose, you’ll be able to remove lava as an obstacle, offering up more digging potential.

Another new addition to the early access build will be skins for Digby. Not only will the shovel itself change color with each skin, but the hose will also take on a different appearance. While I can’t say that Digby’s original coloring is bad, as such, I’m definitely excited to make him pink.

Let digging commence on August 6

While the demo is available for everyone to play right now, you can only play up until the end of day three. If you want to keep digging endlessly and discover the secrets of shovel-kind, then make sure to dive in when Cozy Holes enters early access on August 6.

The developers are incredibly approachable and receptive to feedback, and being in early access means that Cozy Holes can grow depending on that feedback. If you want to help shape the game, being there for early access is an excellent chance to do just that.
