The Nerdy Type is a passion project by Paula Vaynshteyn. Writing about myself in the third person feels strange and unusual, so I'm going to go straight into first-person from here on out!
I'm passionate about indie games, their developer's stories, and rooting for the underdog. The video games media space is filled with websites falling over themselves to write content about the "big" games, but very few of them give attention to the small teams developing indie games.
The Nerdy Type started after a well-timed post on X got way more attention than I ever dreamed it would, and it's been a long and bumpy road since then.
That post blew up in June 2025, and I quickly discovered there were a lot of indie developers out there who simply wanted to have their games noticed and written about. As an out-of-work freelance writer, I took that challenge and ran with it, pouring myself into providing coverage for games that otherwise would perhaps have gone unnoticed.
Since then, I've written over 200 articles for this website, sometimes writing multiple articles a day. I haven't made a huge difference and don't claim that I can, but I do feel proud of what this website has become and what I've achieved. I burned out at one point... Writing so much for such a long time took a lot out of me, and for a while, I even stopped playing video games altogether. But that excitement came back, and so did TNT.
These days, I'm trying to do things a little differently. I'm still writing about the weird, wonderful, cozy, creepy, and occasionally completely unhinged indie games that catch my attention, but I'm also finding new ways to celebrate the people behind them.
That's where Indie Voices comes in. It's a space for people from across the indie game community to tell their own stories, in their own words, without me deciding which questions they should answer.
TNT is still growing and changing, and I'm excited to see where it goes next.
