Agefield High is a trip down memory lane for any 2000s high schooler

For anyone who went to high school in the early 2000s, we’ve reached a point where there’s a certain amount of nostalgia for those more straightforward years of our lives. Even if you hated school, you have to admit that the worries we had then were much less pressing than those we have now.
Would our crush notice us? When was that essay due? Oh, God, there’s a party at the weekend, and my face has decided to become a dot-to-dot!
Agefield High: Rock the School is a recently announced indie game in development by Refugium Games, and it’s set to take us back in time to our high school years, complete with playing hooky and underage tattoos.
The new kid in school
In Agefield High, you play as Sam, the new kid at school with just three months of high school left to suffer through. You have classes to attend (Math, Science, Geography, German, and Music), friends to make, girls to impress, and an image to cultivate now that you’ve been given this fresh start.
Or, if you want to be one of those kids, you can slack off and become a truant, cause trouble in the town, run away from the cops, get into fights, and get terrible illegal tattoos. Because ya know, why actually try to have a positive impact on your own future when you can be “cool”?
Just in case there was any doubt, yes, I was a complete nerd in school.
Are you ready to rock?
When it comes to hanging around the wrong crowd, Agefield High has pretty much nailed the effect of peer pressure on teenagers. Together with new friends Kale and Axel, Sam is roped into a questionable plan to “rock the school” and go down as legends once they graduate, if they get that far.
In order to rock, you need to look the part, and to do that, you need some cash, which is earned differently depending on how you play. If you choose to knuckle down and do well at school, you’ll earn pocket money from your parents. If you want to go off the rails and throw your future away to prove yourself worthy of some kids you literally just met, you can still pick up odd jobs and complete side quests to line your pockets.
That money can then be used to buy new clothes, bikes, tattoos, or to get a haircut. Remember that Agefield High is set in the early 2000s, so you’ll be seeing some fashion from the past that frankly could do with never seeing the light of day ever again.
Bully for you
Agefield High is what would happen if Stiffler made a video game because he wanted to relive the glory days of high school that he can never quite get back, and it looks like a lot of fun to play, even for a nerd like me. There’s clear inspiration from Bully when it comes to the gameplay loop of classes and after-school loitering, and there’s plenty to do at all times.
According to the Steam page, a playthrough of Agefield High should take roughly eight to ten hours to complete, with 30 main missions and 15 side missions to be completed. Be prepared to hear such 2000s gems as “hella whack” and “that’s dope, yo” in abundance, and try not to cringe at the memory of your fashion faux pas.
Agefield High: Rock the School is due for release in Q1 (Spring) of 2026. If you want to keep up with development, go and wishlist/follow the game on Steam, or head to social media and follow Refugium Games for updates.
