Day of the Jellyfish: Full walkthrough and achievement guide

Updated: Aug 5
Day of the Jellyfish is the point-and-click adventure sequel to Escape from 8-Bit High. It has been released on Steam for free ahead of the main game’s full release in 2026. The short adventure is packed with puzzles and hilarious moments, but can be completed in 30-40 minutes if you know what you’re doing.
If you’ve wandered around as Duck or Hank, wondering what you’re supposed to do next or how to proceed, here’s a full guide to get you through Day of the Jellyfish, including how to get all of the 13 achievements.
Day of the Jellyfish: Complete walkthrough
In Day of the Jellyfish, you can play as both Duck and Hank, similarly to the mechanic in D3AD HAND: R3D STAR, and it can be hard to tell who you should be playing as at any time. To make this easier, I’m going to split tasks between the two and go chronologically to guide you through.
All items that can be collected and used are highlighted in bold.
As Hank
As soon as Duck and Hank split up, you can play as either one of them, off on their own adventure. Initially, you’ll want to play as Hank and go through his puzzles. First, interact with the Cabot Cove sign to get an achievement.
Next, interact with the van to the right to get some pedals, then take the path to the right of the screen, where you’ll find Alex standing in front of a boat.
You won’t be able to get her attention initially, thanks to the jellyfish on her head, but if you head to the right until you reach the stage, you can pick up the microphone and speaker. Combine these two first, then add the pedals. Use the resulting combination on Alex to progress the story.
After Alex has been flung out to sea, pick up her Walkman and inspect it to get the batteries from inside, then head onto the boat. Interact with the controls and arrange them in an UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN (shown above) pattern to unhook the submarine.
That’s about it for Hank, and after the cutscene, you won’t be able to do anything else as him except listen to the jellyfish drone on and on, although his dialogue is pretty funny, so I’d recommend sticking around for a while to hear it. After that, you can switch over to Duck to keep progressing the story.
As Duck
After switching over to Duck, you’ll find yourself on the beach with a few interactables around you. There are a lot of things to pick up here, so let’s get into it.
First, inspect the first aid kit leaning against the lifeguard’s chair to get an achievement, then interact with it again to get a surgical glove. Use this glove with the scuba diving tank to inflate it like a balloon.
Next up, interact with the board that has flyers on it and take the Blueberry Finn flyer, which will also put a pin into your inventory. If you’re hunting for achievements, make sure to show the flyer to the following characters before you do anything else with them:
Lifeguard on the beach
Security guard outside the factory
Fizz the parrot
The jellyfish inside the factory
After showing the lifeguard the flyer, it’s time to get rid of her. Combining the pin and the inflated glove will send Duck over to the merchandise stall, popping it in the ear of the jellyfish-headed lifeguard and sending her running into the water.
Now that the merchandise stall is unguarded, you can pick up a magnet on the right side of the table and a box of crackers on the left. Once you’ve got those two items, head to the left and onto the next screen to visit the entrance to the factory.
Outside the factory, show the flyer to both the security guard and Fizz, then you can move on to finding a way inside.
Use the magnet that you picked up on the beach on the security guard to steal the key, then use it on the lock next to the door to remove the cover and reveal a code input console. You should also try talking to the door, as it will give you an achievement.
Once the cover of the lock is removed, give some crackers to Fizz, and the parrot will start to sing melodically. If you’ve got an ear for music, you might be able to figure out the code from sound alone, but there’s an easier way: Count the E’s in Fizz’s beeps. The code that you need is as follows:
31364
When the door opens, head into the factory interior.
Inside the factory, show the flyer to the jellyfish to pop the associated achievement, then interact with the locker to the left of the screen, opening it to reveal some Alka-Seltzer on the top shelf. Then use the same magnet you used to steal the key from the security guard on the barrel to the right, drawing it to you. Use the Alka-Seltzer on the barrel once it pops open to distract the jellyfish.
That’s about all you can do as Duck, so you can switch back to Hank to finish up the story.
As Hank
Back in the water, the jellyfish will finally stop talking and step away to take a phone call. The screen will cut to Hank inside the submarine, holding a controller. Use the batteries that Hank got from Alex’s Walkman with the controller, then fire at the rock above the jellyfish to knock him out and rescue Alex.
After that, you’ll automatically be taken to the stage to watch Blueberry Finn perform, finishing the story and earning the final achievement.
