Gemporium is all about digging, refining, and selling. Playing as Moel, a poor mole who unwittingly takes on the questionable debt of his grandmole, you need to dive into the mines and find gems to sell. While you’re down there, you might just get lucky and find some artifacts.

At first, artifacts found within the many levels of the mines may seem to simply be pretty trinkets that nod to popular culture of recent history, but they’re actually much more important than that. Collecting trinkets and completing the four different collections will provide you with useful perks, helping you in the long run.

What are artifacts in Gemporium?

While you’re digging for gems in the mines, there’s a chance that any node could reward you with an artifact for your collection. As far as I can tell, it’s possible to collect any artifact from any mining node, with the feature being somewhat randomized, although following a distinct pattern.

The first three collections, when complete, boost the selling price of certain gems. These collections, in my experience, unlock in order from one to three. The fourth and final collection features artifacts that seem to be discoverable in any order, and at any time, although you’re more likely to find these items as you progress deeper into the mines.

Once you’ve found an artifact, it will go into your bag for refining alongside any gems you’ve found. Refining an artifact is harder than refining gems, with three clicks needed to remove each chunk of dirt. When it’s refined, it will go into the cabinet, slotting into it’s designated position among the collections.

How to find artifacts in Gemporium

If you’re hunting for artifacts, there are some things you can do to make things easier on yourself:

Play in Cozy Mode

  • Turning on Cozy Mode through the settings removes the time constraints from each day, allowing you to spend as much time down in the mines as you like without worrying about the shop’s opening times or running out of hours in the day. Just bear in mind that entering your shop will result in the day ending, so explore as much of the mines as you can before doing that.

Purchase upgrades

  • There are two particular upgrades that will be helpful when it comes to finding artifacts in Gemporium. The first one has a ladder icon and allows access to deeper levels of the mines, offering a higher chance of finding items for the fourth collection. The second upgrade is less necessary, but definitely helpful. Purchasing the upgrade with a magnifying glass icon will allow you to see what’s in a node as soon as you enter it, alerting you to any artifacts that lay within.

Harvest every node

  • Once you’ve got all of the levels of the mine open to explore and the ability to see what’s in a node, it’s a good idea to start at the top level and search through every node until you’re alerted to the presence of an artifact. If you’ve chosen to play without Cozy Mode enabled, this will save you valuable time.
