How to avoid or kill the worm in One Man’s Trash

One Man’s Trash is a junk-sucking adventure through the trash pile, based on the true and woeful tale of a man who accidentally disposed of a huge stockpile of Bitcoin. What seems at first to be a calm and chilled vacuum-aided excavation can soon turn horrifying, though, once you’re down deep enough to meet the enemy. 

In this case, the enemy is a giant worm that seeks you out once you hit a certain depth. It will keep coming for you, dealing damage and maybe even killing you if you let yourself get hit too many times. Luckily, there are ways to harm this worm, or even avoid it altogether.

How to kill the worm in One Man’s Trash

Down in the trash pit, there are three mine shafts to discover at the following depths:

• 54 meters

• 63 meters

• 76 meters

In each of these mine shafts, there is some dynamite with a detonation device attached, which can be used to kill the worm once and for all. If you manage it, you’ll earn the achievement “Worm-B-Q”. 

However, this is easier said than done. It’s a game of patience and grit, because you’ll need to wait for the worm to come for you while you stand exposed in the mine shaft, and have the guts to stay where you are until this fast-moving invertebrate is in the right position over the dynamite. When it hits the right spot, interact with the detonator to blow it up, and maybe get ready to jump if your timing is off. 

How to avoid the worm

When the game was originally released, it was impossible to avoid the worm altogether in One Man’s Trash, leaving you risking your neck as you dove deeper into your self-created hole. Thankfully, as part of update 1.3.3, the developer added two new game modes that completely flip the switch. 

On top of the original ‘classic’ mode, ‘cozy’ and ‘abyss’ modes were added, which can be selected when starting a new game. Abyss mode turns the game into a nightmare, but if you want to get rid of the worm, cozy mode is an absolute godsend. 

When starting a new game, which is recommended after an update, you can select cozy mode to remove enemies and make the digging experience altogether more enjoyable. Doing this will also mean that coupons are stored to be used when you’re ready, rather than automatically triggering upon collection.
